The importance of studies on the social, economic, communicative, political and cultural issues linked to the Mediterranean territory and related to the so-called Barcelona Process and its main challenge, the inclusiveness, comprising the understanding of the complex relations between the north and the south of the Mediterranean, which configures a new international context.

Paper presenter: Alvise Vianello, CIDOB, Deconstructing civil society: a model for future interMediterranean mediators
While international literature persists emphasising the importance of civil society participation in governance processes, the set of definitions that embrace this term keeps broadening its semantic domain, which often tends to encompass an undetermined set of social activities placed outside the public and the market spheres. Therefore, as a comprehensive concept often used ex-post to analyse situations of change, it becomes unmanageable when aimed at lecturing future civil society actors in the framework of Mediterranean cultural mediation. This work will argue that in order keep the analytical usefulness of the term civil society, while aiming at applying it in the framework of a specific training in intercultural studies, it is needed to focus on the political and cultural practices by themselves rather then on the structure that encompasses them. Through a set of cases-study related to conflict-management CSOs analysed in the filed, it will be shown that civil society might be defined as a space of autonomy where values and symbols of belonging are questioned and elaborated. This approach can shed further light on techniques of funding, networks development, and relations with the public and private spheres, while maturing a sense of criticism toward those cultural hegemonic trends that tend to subtract autonomy from civil society groups.

Qu’est que ce signifie « approches interculturelles » aujourd’hui, dans un contexte de formation et d’éducation dans le cadre de nos sociétés contemporaines ? Quelles sont les interrelations entre pédagogie, société, interculturel? A quel niveau un processus de formation de « médiation inter-méditerranéenne », ou un parcours d’études avancées dans ce domaine, doit ou peut se fonder sur une approche pédagogique interculturelle? Quelle sont les théories et les praxis d’une telle approche pédagogique dans un contexte social, culturel et éducatif qui est multilinguistique et multiculturel et qui désire se diriger vers la construction d’un contexte discursive et historique commun?
La contribution présentera de choix pédagogiques et d’exemples dans le cadre de la médiation inter-méditerranéenne afin de discuter l’interculturel en tant qu’événement communicatif réciproque nécessaire, et la signification d’une idée d’interculturel qui ne peut qu’être « complexe et mobile ».

Paper presenter: Nureddin Harrami, La demande en matière de travail social au Maroc et les perspectives de partenariat inter-éditerranéen
Cette présentation se propose de montrer comment le travail social, depuis quelques années officiellement érigé en une modalité de développement et de changement social planifié, se trouve confronté à des problèmes de formation des intervenants et de pertinence des programmes et des outils d’action. Dans ce contexte, le partenariat inter-méditerrannén est de plus en plus indiqué comme un élément susceptible de surmonter les carences locales en matière d’intervention sociale. Or la lecture de certaines expériences révèle que cette coopération inter méditerranéenne peut engendrer des résistances sociales qui limitent la portée des programmes d’action.

Paper presenter: Susana Tovias Tovias, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Communication and intercultural education for the training in cultural mediation
This panel attempts to provide the perspective of education in relation to the importance of intercultural communication in educative processes. Above all this intercultural communication is important when these processes occur within multicultural contexts. Understanding how intercultural communication affects interpersonal relations and in teaching-learning and socialisation processes is vital to succeed in creating positive dynamics for the transmission of knowledge and empathy towards ‘the other’. We ought to reflect about the facts that are related to intercultural communication and provide the tools to improve it. In this sense the educator ought to be aware that he is a cultural mediator. He ought also to be aware that in front of the new multicultural and globalized social reality he will have to learn new abilities and new intercultural communicative skills. These abilities and skills will be progressively more necessary within this context.

Paper Presenter: Ana Viñuela(Institut National de l’Audiovisuel (INA) / Universitat Paris 1, Panthéon-Sorbonne), “Cross-cultural training and education approaches in the audiovisual field (Approches inter-culturelles pour la formation et l’enseignement dans le domaine de l’audiovisuel)”
Les formations pour les professionnels et les futurs professionnels de l’audiovisuel portent la double ambition de contribuer à la professionnalisation et à la structuration d’un secteur clé de l’économie contemporaine et de mettre en valeur la dimension symbolique véhiculée par les images et les sons. Dès la deuxième phase du programme Euromed Audiovisuel, le soutien à des actions de formation est devenue une priorité. Les expériences financées par ce programme communautaire rendent compte des principaux enjeux politiques de la coopération euro-méditerranéenne : valorisation économique et culturelle des pays du bassin sud-méditerranéen, création d’un espace d’échanges et de rapprochement régional, transfert de connaissances, de pratiques et de modèles organisationnels et développement de réseaux transnationaux et d’instances fédératrices capables d’assurer la pérennité des projets. L’analyse des choix pédagogiques effectués dans le cadre d’une expérience conduite par l’Ina, le programme AFIC, nous permettra d’approcher la notion d’interculturalité dans l’espace euro-méditerranéen et de proposer des nouvelles voies pour améliorer l'équilibre nord-sud et renforcer l'impact des actions qui doivent désormais concerner également la formation initiale tout en poursuivant les efforts initiés dans le contexte de la formation professionnelle.
